What To Expect

What to Expect During an Emergency Visit

Call Ahead, If Possible

Whenever possible, please call ahead to inform us of your pet’s emergency and estimated arrival time. This helps our team prepare for your pet’s specific needs. If you're unable to call, walk-ins are always welcome.

Arrival & Triage

  • You will receive a registration link to input your pet’s information and gain access to your account and records.

  • Upon arrival, your pet will be triaged by a veterinary nurse to assess the urgency of their condition.

  • You will be asked a series of questions about your pet’s medical history.

  • Patients are seen based on the severity of their condition, prioritizing critical cases similar to a human ER. If your pet is stable, you may experience a wait.

New Client Information

  • If this is your first visit, you’ll be asked to complete new client forms.

  • Depending on your pet's condition, you may also be asked to sign a STAT treatment authorization and CPR/DNR directive.

Immediate Medical Attention

Pets in need of urgent care will be taken to the treatment area immediately for evaluation by the ER doctor and nursing team.

Initial Examination & Treatment Plan

  • A veterinary nurse will obtain a thorough medical history.

  • Initial diagnostic recommendations may be discussed.

  • After the veterinarian's full examination, if diagnostics are needed, a cost estimate will be provided for approval.

  • If approved, diagnostics will begin. Adjustments can be made if financial concerns arise. Please expect a wait during this phase.

Follow-Up & Further Planning

  • Once diagnostics are reviewed, the doctor will discuss next steps.

  • A new estimate will be provided if additional treatments, hospitalization, or surgery are required.

  • If hospitalized, a deposit of 75% of the high end or lower end of the estimate (whichever is greater) is required.

If Your Pet is Hospitalized

  • Your pet will stay in a comfortable treatment area with soft bedding.

  • IV catheter placement and fluid therapy may be administered.

  • Our nursing team provides 24/7 care and monitoring.

  • You will receive regular updates from the veterinary team.

  • At discharge, a nurse will review at-home care and medications with you.

If Emergency Surgery is Required

  • A surgical consent form and estimate must be signed and 75% deposit collected.

  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork will be performed.

  • A skilled ER veterinarian or board-certified surgeon will perform the surgery with continuous monitoring by a veterinary nurse.

  • You’ll be contacted after surgery with a full update.

  • Postoperative care will be provided in the treatment area, with regular communication from the medical team.

  • Discharge instructions will be reviewed in detail upon your pet’s release.
